A vintage leather elephant by Dimitri Omersa.
Dimitri Omersa is best known for his unique leather animal footstools and decorative items. Originally from Yugoslavia, Omersa emigrated to England after World War II. In 1958, he took over the operation of a small leather goods company that had been producing pig-shaped footstools since 1927. Under his leadership, the brand expanded its range, introducing various animal designs, including elephants, rhinos, and hippos, which became iconic collectibles.
Omersa’s designs are characterized by their high-quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the use of robust leather, making them both functional and decorative. His works gained international recognition and were sold through prestigious retailers like Liberty of London and Abercrombie & Fitch in the United States.
Today, Omersa’s leather animals are considered classic examples of mid-century design, and vintage pieces are highly sought after by collectors. The tradition of crafting these unique items continues, maintaining the legacy of Dimitri Omersa’s creative vision and dedication to quality. Our elephant has a rough life and needs some serious 'TLC' as shown by the pictures. Need more info/ pictures of this item, please do reach out directly to us.
